Over the past few years it has become increasingly accepted the benefits of vitamin supplements being taken on a regular basis. There are also probably three reasons that we are in greater need of vitamins than in the past.
- Over the past fifty years there has been a dramatic reduction in the vitamins in the food we eat, due to modern farming methods and soil depletion, and the storing, drying, freezing, and processing of food.
- Many people eat a diet which contains junk food, and other sources of vitamin deficient food.
- We are exposed to a whole range of toxins and pollutants on a daily basis.
Of course there are dozens of vitamin supplements that help top up vitamins that are important to our bodies - each with different benefits. Some of the main ones include:
- Vitamin A :
An important antioxidant, it also plays a part in maintaining healthy vision, boosting your immune system and healing wounds, and performs a whole host of functions to keep your skin looking good - keeping cells healthy, relieving skin disorders, and treating acne and wrinkles.
- Vitamin B12 :
Essential to avoid fatigue, anaemia, and nerve damage. It also plays a key role in numerous brain functions, including helping to prevent depression and memory problems.
- Vitamin C :
Probably the best known vitamin. An antioxidant, it has a role to play in boosting your immune system, protecting arteries, and healing wound.
- Vitamin E :
Also an antioxidant, and has been implicated in helping to prevent heart disease, some cancers, as well as boosting your immune system.
