The use of aromatherapy candles is growing, as people learn the benefits of inhaling these natural aromatic substances.
At the same time, many people are instead turning to commercially sold scents that are simply a chemical cocktail - these have no health benefits, and simply pump a mix of chemicals into the air of your house.
Real aromatherapy candles are scented with pure essential oils, and can bring on feelings of peace, tranquillity and harmony. When added to the delightful ambience we experience simply by burning them instead of electric lights, they can also invoke other moods, such as romance!
While at one time we used candles simply as a source of light, so they tended to be plain and utilitarian in appearance, it is now possible to find a wonderful variety of designs, sizes, colours and fragrances.
Interestingly, there are guidelines about how to use these aromatic sources of light. The rule of thumb is that you should burn them for 1 hour for each inch of it's diameter before you extinguish it.
The idea is that this allows the flame time needed to melt the wax down to the outer edge of the candle - and thus for the candle to burn down evenly. Burning it for shorter periods of time means that only the core burns down, thus reducing the life of the candle.
