Holistic nutrition

How do you define holistic nutrition? The concept of holistic nutrition is based on the belief that a properly balanced diet can provide huge rewards both physically and mentally.

Indeed, many believers in holistic nutrition are convinced that many of the illnesses and mental problems from which we suffer can be directly attributed to our diet, and can therefore be resolved with the appropriate food.

The basis of holistic nutrition is that we should treat the whole individual, rather than simply addressing one or two symptoms with modern medicine whenever a problem occurs.

Thus diet and exercise are seen not simply as preventative tools, but rather as something that can also help to rebalance us and help us to recover once problems have started.

This is part of a field that includes practitioners such as acupuncturists, homeopaths and chiropractors, each of whom has a belief in the ability of the human body to heal itself, if we make small adjustments that allow it to begin the process.

There is no doubt that health problems such as heart disease, obesity, cancer, and diabetes can be brought on or exacerbated by the food choices we make - similarly, it is possible to help improve or even resolve these problems by diligently improving our diet.

Thus the old saying, "you are what you eat" has never been truer - meal by meal, day by day, week by week, we make the choices that will ultimately determine our overall health.
