The practice of Kundalini Yoga consists of simple techniques that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter their age or physical ability.
The word "kundalini" means "the curl of the lock of hair", a metaphor that is intended to describe the flow of energy and consciousness we each contain within us. Regular practice allows us to merge our individual consciousness with the universal consciousness to create a "divine union".
It is for this reason that the practice of this technique is also called the Yoga of Awareness.
Kundalini Yoga incorporative a number of elements, including:
- Breathing techniques (Pranayama)
- Postures (Asanas)
- Sounds
- Chanting (mantra)
- Meditation
More than just a form of exercise, this is a potent and effective system of self-transformation and personal development. Regular practice will help you to develop a healthy body, a balanced mind, and open the door to your full potential.
The techniques practised are designed to strengthen your nervous system and balance the glandular system, improving stability and vitality, while the meditation improves mental concentration, sharpens awareness and opens up the consciousness.
This technique is run by the non-profit 3HO Foundation, founded by Yogi Bhajan in 1969, and operates on the belief that to be healthy, happy and holy is the essence of a fulfilled life.
Recognized by the United Nations as a Non-Governmental Organization in 1994, 3HO operates more than 300 centers in 35 countries.
