Whether you're new to the product, or a seasoned user, finding out about what to apply under foundation makeup will be vital depending on your skin type. If you have especially dry skin, or your regular product doesn't contain sunscreen, you might be considering whether these can be worn with your base.
So how do you know the do's and don't's about what to apply under foundation makeup? Are there certain combinations of what to apply under foundation makeup that are better than others? And how can you protect your delicate skin and still look great?
When answering the question of what to apply under foundation makeup, there are a couple of ground rules to keep in mind: If you suffer from dry skin, but want to wear a base, you'll need to apply a strong moisturizer some time before the base itself, leaving time for it to be absorbed by the skin before you try and put on your base. If you put on the base too soon after putting on the moisturizer, or especially if you try and put the moisturizer over the base, it will be bad for your skin. This is because the moisturizer will draw the base under the surface of your skin as it's absorbed. This will clog pores and create small bumps on the surface.
The same is true for sunscreen, or any specialty acne medications. Apply them before, with plenty of time for it to be absorbed before applying the base. Of course, you can avoid this problem altogether if you purchase a base especially formulated for dry skin, trouble skin or already containing sunscreen.
Other products that may be applied beneath base include products like Filler Products, which are applied beneath the eyes to mask fine lines or wrinkles. Be warned however, that since these are made from silicone, bases often have trouble sticking to them. You can also use treaments for undereye shadows under a base if you leave a few minutes for them to bond with the skin.
Other than the above, most other cosmetics should be applied over the base.
