One very hot type of cardio at the gym right now is cardio kick boxing. Because there are so many different ways you can go about doing a cardio kick boxing class, one thing that's for sure is that you'll never be bored.
The major goal in cardio kick boxing is to improve upon your cardiovascular conditioning, your muscular strength and endurance, your flexibility as well as working on your balance, speed and agility.
Usually most classes will be a blend of leg movements coupled with punches and intricate footwork, along with some easier non-complicated movements in between to keep the heart rate up.
Some instructors may have you perform a circuit type of routine, which has you moving from one action to the next with little or no break in between. This will keep you fast on your toes as you will be required to prepare for each activity with little downtime. As this is what you must learn how to do in an actual match, this is a great way to prepare yourself if getting involved in competitive matches is a goal of yours.
Other instructors may try to incorporate a step into the routine. They will do this by having you step up and down on a stepping box in a variety of ways while also throwing in jabs, punches and potentially even some leg movements. This type of class will take slightly more coordination and should likely be done by a more advanced trainee.
Finally, some classes will have you performing a lot of jump rope since this is not only a great way to improve your cardiovascular shape but will also add strength to your upper body.
So be sure to try a variety of different classes so your body will get the most benefits possible.
